In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
LARSEN, Carl Frederick - It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Carl Larsen, husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
He will be forever missed by his children, Curtis (Jane), Craig (Carol), and Anita (Patrick Labron), and by his six grandchildren, Alex, Jason, Matthew, Josh, Sierra, and Joel, with whom he loved spending time. He was predeceased by his parents, Oscar Peter Larsen in 1984 and Dorethy Eva (Farnham) Larsen in 1988, and by his beloved wife, Mary Luella Larsen (née Baxter), in 2022.
Carl was born in Chilliwack, BC, the oldest of five children, and lived in Ryder Lake. He joined the Navy in 1960 and served until 1963, while earning a degree in mechanical engineering. During this time, he met Mary Lue, and they were married on October 7, 1961. Shortly afterward, they moved back to the Lower Mainland and settled in North Vancouver, where they raised their family.
Carl worked as the Maintenance Supervisor at Eaton's at Park Royal for over 15 years. He later worked for BI&I, travelling all over BC. As Carl began working less and eventually retired, he and Mary Lue enjoyed travelling to Europe, cruising, and taking extended trips to Arizona and California to visit relatives and friends. After Mary Lue's passing, Carl continued to travel, taking an Alaskan cruise and flying to visit family in Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
Carl was known for his passion for soccer, including coaching his children's teams and his ardent following of the Whitecaps, and for never forgetting a face. He could find someone he knew almost anywhere he went. For the last 10 years, Carl lived at Cedar Springs, where he welcomed new residents and lovingly tended the community garden.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Seymour Golf & Country Club on Sunday, October 18, 2026, from 1:00–4:00 p.m. (North Shore News 16 Sep 2026)
