McGUIRE, Alfred Joseph (Mick) - We are saddened to announce the passing of our dear father, Alfred “Mick” Joseph McGuire who passed away peacefully on Friday, July 24, 2026, at the Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Building in Halifax, Nova Scotia at the age of 100.
Mick is survived by his daughter Andrea (Paul) Flinn of Dartmouth, son Michael (Jennifer) McGuire of Stewiacke, grandchildren Brittany McGuire of Hubbards, and Sean Flinn of Dartmouth, great grandchildren Summer Melanson and Maxwell McGuire-Jackson both of Hubbards. Mick is also survived by his brother Michael “Barry”, nieces and nephews.
Mick was recently predeceased by his wife of 75 years, June McGuire. We take comfort in knowing that Dad and Mom are together again. Shorty after meeting, Mick and June were married in December 1950. For their 60th wedding anniversary, Dad surprised Mom with a trip to Australia.
Mick was also predeceased by his father Michael Henry McGuire, his mother Mary Irene (nee Robert) McGuire, his four brothers: John “Jack”, Henry “Harold”, Joseph “Joe”, and James “Jimmy”, and two sisters: Mary “Margaret” and Mary “Olive”.
Mick was born in Ottawa on December 9, 1925. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1944, retiring in 1970 as a warrant officer. Mick was a World War II veteran and a Korean War veteran.
Upon retiring from the Navy, Mick had a career as a residential real estate agent. Mick and June later moved to Stewiacke to enjoy country living. Dad loved life, spending time outdoors, and Christmas time.
Dad inspired us with his strong will and determination. He was known for his wit and charm. Dad was proud of his Irish heritage and was a man of faith. He was also a lifelong Toronto Maple Leafs fan.
