YOSKIOKA, Mary Alison (née ANDREWS) - After a long and full life, Alison Yoshioka passed away in the presence of family at her home in Pictou, NS. The daughter of Lester and Gladys Andrews, she was predeceased by her husband, the Rev. Edward S. Yoshioka (Ed); sister, Phyllis; and brother, Roland. Before her marriage to Ed in 1959, Alison studied at Mount Allison University in Sackville, NB; served in the Women’s Royal Canadian Naval Service (Wrens) in wartime Britain; attended the United Church Training School in Toronto; ministered as a Deaconess in rural Saskatchewan and at Lakeview United Church in Regina; and coordinated youth programs for First United Church in Truro and the Atlantic Christian Training Centre in Tatamagouche, NS. Over the years she supported Ed’s ministries in Toronto; Tunapuna and Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago; Dominion, NS; Coboconk, Oakville, and Kenora, ON; and Pointe Claire, QC. Following Ed’s death in 1990, Alison faithfully took care of her mother in Pictou until the latter passed away at age 104. She is survived by three sons, Ted, Andrew, and Alan. A Celebration of Life for Alison Yoshioka will be held on Saturday 17 May 2025 at Pictou United Church with Rev. Mary-Beth Moriarity officiating. The service will begin at 13:00, followed by a reception downstairs and then a short burial ceremony at Seaview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) / Doctors Without Borders or to any local food bank would be appreciated. (McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou)
