In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
MURPHY, Ronald Lee - It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Ronald Lee Murphy on March 10, 2026 at the age of 84.
Ron was born in 1941 in Wolfville, N.S. he was the son of John and Pauline Murphy, he often reminisced that he enjoyed a wonderful childhood. In 1960 Ron enlisted with the Canadian Navy as a fire control technician. Ron travelled to many different Country's during his 28 years with the Navy. Ron was married to Sharon Faye Murphy and had two children (Shawn and Janice) he was stationed in various postings throughout Canada, specifically Halifax, PEI, Victoria, BC, and Ontario. Ron held many positions on both land and sea.
Ron retired from the Navy in 1989 as a Petty Officer 1st Class Naval Weapons Technician 2. Ron felt fortunate that the Navy allowed him to see so many parts of the world that many do not have a chance to see.
After retirement in 1989 Ron travelled extensively every year with his second wife Marilyn and enjoyed his time at the cottage in Molega Lake boating, fishing and paddling. Ron also enjoyed vacations in Dominican Republic, Costa Rica and many other warm and sunny destinations.
Ron was an avid ice skater, cross country skier until around the age of 80 but an amazing accomplishment was that at 79 years old, Ron hiked 17 km to the summit of Gros Morne Mountain in Newfoundland, being one of the oldest hikers to complete the difficult trek, the guide was amazed at his strength! He enjoyed reading, writing and was an amazing "fixer" of everything that was broken beyond repair, he delved into every project with an amazing amount of in-depth research and never ending determination.
But most of all he was the most amazing father who loved his children and their families, he cherished every moment of their young lives. He taught them how to fish, explore nature, be prepared for trips or camping, to be inquisitive, ask questions and most importantly to always remember "it is all about people, you never forget about your people". He loved everyone he met and was truly a gentleman to all.
Ron is survived by his first wife Sharon Murphy, Son Shawn Murphy (Kathy) grandson Jesse Murphy (Shelby),daughter Janice Thomas (Bradley), granddaughters Alicia, Jayda, Mya, Tilly, sister Irene (Nelson), nieces Pam and Trish, sister Linda (Harry), step daughter Wendy Williston (Glen, Gary) granddaughters Danielle and Annette, step daughter Belinda Williston (Sylvain), granddaughter Tamara Young and many other nieces, nephews and extended family.
Ron was predeceased by both parents John and Pauline Murphy, brother Carroll Murphy, sister Colleen Talbot, grandson Brandon Glasgow, wife Marilyn Burns and grandson Matthew.
We are beyond grateful for the care Ron received at Fisherman's Memorial, Veterans Unit in Lunenburg and the wonderful staff that showed him love and compassion every day. As well as the wonderful caring staff at Camp Hill Veterans Hospital in Halifax who supported the family and Ron every day. Special thanks to Doctor Yeddala who gave the family and Ron so much support in so many ways during his final few months.
Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to CurePSP.org
At Ron's request a small intimate celebration of life will be held at a later date. (Dartmouth Funeral Home)
