In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
FERGUSON, George - Peacefully on Thursday, November 7, 2013 George Ferguson, beloved husband of Bea, passed away at the Portage District General Hospital at the age of 86 years. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Beatrice of 62 years; daughter-in-law Gwen (Daryl); two granddaughters, Tara (Calvin) and Stacey (Mark); four great grandchildren Natalie and Kobe, Cash and Willow; sister-in-law Bernice Tashiro; sister Beatrice Kellett and several nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by his parents Jim and Katherin Ferguson; two brothers Willie and Alex and his beloved sons Brian and Brock. Born in Portage la Prairie November 25, 1926, [where] George spent all of his life except for the two years served in the Royal Canadian Navy. He worked for CPR for 47 years until ill health forced his retirement. George was a member of various organizations including Cubs, First Presbyterian Church Elder, Men's breakfast club at First Presbyterian, Meals on Wheels and the Herman Prior Center. He helped many to change their lives around. George always had a joke or story to tell to anyone who would listen. He would often be called upon to act as master of ceremonies for events. Most of all he was a people person and loved to visit and have company. George was also a fantastic mathematician. He enjoyed being a part of the Royal Canadian Legion #65. He was honoured by being made a life member of White Ensign Naval Club of Winnipeg. A time of visitation and viewing was held on Monday, November 11, 2013 at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel. A Celebration of George's Life was held on Tuesday, November 12, at First Presbyterian Church at 2:30 pm. A private family interment took place at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
