Died: 19 Jul 2008, Sheet Harbour, Nova Scotia, Canada

 

SCHWARTZ, Donald James - of Pope's Harbour, passed away in the Palliative Care Unit of Eastern Shore Memorial Hospital. Donald was the eldest son of Wesley and Emma (Fisk) Schwartz, born in Desboro, Ont., and brought up in Chesley, Ont. He joined the Canadian Navy at the age of 19 and became a Clearance Diver, attached to the Fleet Diving Unit - Atlantic. After he left the Navy he owned and operated his own construction company (Perfection Builders Ltd.) and later joined the Canadian Corps of Commissioners where he spent most of his time at the Halifax International Airport. After retirement, he moved to Pope's Harbour on the Eastern Shore. Donald is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Gillette) Schwartz; his eldest son, Donald (Donna), Oshawa, Ont., and his youngest son, Erich (Karen), Vancouver, BC.; brother, Cecil Schwartz, London, Ont.; granddaughters, Sonia Bernard, Campbellton, N.B.; Marina Schwartz, Edmonton, Alta.; Tarah Schwartz, Edmonton, Alta.; Leah Schwartz, St. Albert, Alta.; and great-grandson, Kristopher Arron Comeau, Campbellton, N.B. He was predeceased by his parents; infant brother, John Wesley; and infant grandson, Kristophe. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth.
