FORD, Frederick James, AB.AF, 29762, RCN, 880 Anti-Submarine Squadron, HMCS SHEARWATER - Son of Gerald Cooper and Ida Ruth Ford of Exeter, Ontario.  AB Ford is buried in the Exeter Cemetery, Exeter, Ontario.

 

Frederick Ford was born 3 July 1936 at Exeter, Ontario Son of Gerald Cooper and Ida Ruth Ford of Exeter, Ontario. Brother of Geraldine and Nancy Ford. The Ford family left Exeter, ON moving to Kitchener, ON. Fredrick Ford was an active member of his local YMCA, he resided in Kitchener, ON until joining the RCN on 09 Jun 1954 joining as an Aircraft Maintenance Technician with the Royal Canadian Naval Air Branch.

 

After New Entry training at HMCS CORNWALLIS, Ford was drafted to HMCS SHEARWATER as an Able Seaman Air Fitter with 880 Anti-Submarine Squadron. On 30 Jan 1957, while an Avenger was preparing to take off, AB Ford accidentally walked into the aircraft's propeller blades. He survived the initial trauma and was rushed to hospital in Halifax. There he was diagnosed with a compound fracture to the skull; he later passed away in hospital from his injuries.
